Hadassah saluted Prof. Jacque Michel last week in a very special seminar on Ethics in Medicine. Prof. Michel completed 10 years of volunteering as Chair of HMO Helsinki Committee.
Some 150 colleagues and friends attended the 3 hours seminar, and listened to two special lectures by Israel Prize Laurette Prof. Assa Kasher, and our own Prof. Avinoam Reches.
Greetings were given by Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, Prof. Dina Ben-Yehuda Prof. Avi Israeli, and Dr. Leonid Idelman, Chairman of the Israli Medical Association.
All speakers praised Prof. Michel for his outstanding leadership, dedication to Ethical Medicine and exceptional contribution to the State of Israel in handling very complicated ethical issues on the national level.
Prof. Michel, a Hadassah icon, has been with Hadassah more than 40 years as a physician, department head, director of Mt. Scopus, and the Chair of Helsinki Committee.
Prof. Tova Hajek-Shaul, who retired last year after heading the department of medicine in Mt. Scopus, will replace Prof. Michel.
Giving a very emotional response, Prof. Michel thanked everyone, and said: "When I grew up in France I dreamt of working in the leading medical institute in Israel, and after I made Aliya, I joined Hadassah and stayed here for 41 years".
