Dear Madam/Sir,

Re: Joint Replacement Surgery in Hadassah University Medical Center

We are happy to provide information about treating your problem.

In our department there is an active joint replacement unit which utilizes modern and innovative technologies, applied in accordance to the patient's clinical problem. These cutting edge technologies include surgery through small incision (MIS – "Minimal Invasive Surgery") and computer aided surgery (CAS). The implants we use are also top-notch products (you may learn more about them and the technologies we use in the following website of the Zimmer Company, www.zimmer.com).

We would like to point out that the above mentioned technologies are not always applicable in any case, thus the treatment is specifically suited to the patient.

Our unit performs about 600 joint replacement surgeries per year carried out by several senior surgeons who have specialized in this area.

In case you would like to consider joint replacement surgery in our department you should of course arrange first an appointment in our clinic for a physical examination, and bring with you the results of general medical tests and imaging examinations (usually x-rays) of the affected joint. In case a primary joint replacement is concerned the average of hospitalization stay required is between 3 to 7 days. Following that period the patient can regain functional independence either at home or in the case of tourists in a hotel/ hostel. We usually recommend staying in Israel at least until after surgical stitches removal which is performed two weeks after the surgery. Continued rehabilitation process can be started in the patient's homeland, or possibly in our hospital.

As for costs of surgery and hospitalization, please contact Mrs. Hanna Tidhar (email tidhar@hadassah.org.il).

Patients from outside Israel can send medical material for preliminary perusal via regular mailing address:

Department of Orthopedic Surgery

Joint Replacement Unit

Hadassah Medical Center

P.O. Box 12000

Jerusalem, Israel 91120

Or you can reach us via e-mail (serez@hadassah.org.il). Once we have your information we can make a principle decision and a date for surgery and hospitalization can be settled.  In that case the first physical examination would be carried out during hospitalization or just close to it.  However, the patient should realize that there is a risk for the surgery to be postponed or cancelled in case the clinical picture is different from that which had been perceived based on the correspondence.

We hope to be of service to you.

Sincerely,

Department of Orthopedic Surgery,
